Biography of Hồ Xuân Hương Installations, dimention variable 2015- ( projet en cours de réalisation ) I would like to refer to the eighteenth-century Vietnamese poetess Hồ Xuân Hương and her Hán Nôm poetry as an inspirational lead throughout the art project, as I endeavor to depict contemporary Vietnamese female intellectuals in different ways of documents, photography and experimental video. Hồ Xuân Hương was one of the foremost feminist intellectuals in Vietnamese history, who fought for women's rights. She braved the authority to question and challenged the patriarchal traditions and the social conventions. Such courage inspires and nourishes the lives and creative activities of contemporary female creators. Under the influence of the class stratification of the global economy, discrimination between the rich and the poor is masked by the discrimination toward different races and nationalities. Women, whose socioeconomic status is often relatively weak, become the most victims of discrimination. In Taiwan, foreign spouses, especially Vietnamese brides, often suffer from locals’ discrimination. The mainstream discourse rarely includes intellectual and creative Vietnamese women who are brave enough to oppose the patriarchal society. By completing the project through Hồ Xuân Hương’s Chu nom poetry, I want to present a comprehensive picture of female intellectuals. The discourse of them has been neglected for long.
